Start the arc away from the weld mesh and once you have a weldpool touch it over to the weld mesh If you are still struggling use a heat sink to hold the mesh down if it grabs just wiggle it off.
A good Arc user can still weld without it but it will allow someone who is learning to make less burn throughs.
