Welding 88 Axle Tubes. First I measured the stock clearance 5-78 from the fixture to the bottom of the F88. WIKD 281 Registered.
If this is not done you are creating a situation for bearing failure which can cause a lot of other bad things to happen where you have likely spent a good amount of money. Just wondering if it would cause any problems welding the mild steel axle tubes to the cast iron housing on a ford 88 rear end with a mig welder thanks. Joined Nov 10 2008 312 Posts.

The 88 Mustang rear end has about half of the power transmissed into the axle tubes and the other half transmissed into the eyes cast into the top of the center casting. The last options is to cut the spring brackets off and weld new ones on. I installed a Loc-right locker and other than a leaking axle seal I love the axle. There is no generic one size fits all answer.
