Welding Cast Iron No Preheat. The disadvantage of MMA is the greater weld pool penetration and parent metal dilution but using electrode negative polarity. This is a danger zone for cast iron during which it is the most unstable and difficult to work with.
Thus it can be concluded that welding with preheating is better than welding without preheating. Turn on the MIG welder and Measure your metal. As a matter of fact a lot of welding workers still experience failure in welding the cast iron so they require the proper procedures to perform welding on the cast iron like the heat treatment before the welding.
Someone correct me if Im wrong but my understanding is that one of the reasons cast iron cracks after welding it with normal steel electrodes is because some of the carbon in the cast iron which has more carbon than even high-carbon steel dissolves into the weld deposit in effect creating a high-carbon steel weld deposit.

Welding cast iron has two schools of thought one is hot and the other is cold welding. This is a danger zone for cast iron during which it is the most unstable and difficult to work with.
