Welding Copper Aluminum. Welding Copper to Various Metals Copper and copper-base alloys can be welded to mild and low-alloy steels and to stainless steels. Technique for welding copper to aluminium.
Using linear friction welding MTI joins copper to aluminum to form heat exchanger plates for vehicles. This is an SPI Lasers patented process. Aluminum and Copper cannot be fusion welded however they can be welded with a solid state process where the metals are only heated to the point where they are soft and then pushed together.
Aluminium welding Welding of Copper.
Aluminum has the lower melting point of the two so having it in the core in rod form and having the copper on the outside in wire form will help them initially melt at similar times hopefully. Most copper alloys even in thick sections do not require pre-heating because the thermal diffusivity is much lower than for copper. Aluminum tubes are increasingly being used for pipes in refrigerationand heating and air conditioning applications. The quality and cost-beneficial linking of these materials is a major challenge.
