Welding Galvanized Steel Smaw. Allieds galvanized steel tube can be welded using 332 inch diameter E6013 electrode with direct current and electrode positive reverse polarity or alternating current and the parameters recommended by the electrode manufacturer. Metals that can be welded very well with SMAW are carbon steel tool steel cast iron.
Metals that have okay SMAW weld characteristics include stainless steel copper and nickel. Aluminum is sometimes welded using SMAW but it is not recommended. No separate shielding gas is applied separately.

Aluminum is sometimes welded using SMAW but it is not recommended. Do not weld on coated metals such as galvanized lead or cadmium plated steel unless the coating is removed from the weld area the area is well ventilated and while wearing an air-supplied. When using SMAW stick welding galvanized steel can be welded in the same manner as uncoated steel. Of H16 or less may be used for welding of all steels in Column 2 of Table 53 of W59-13.
