Welding Zinc. Traditional e-coat processes can be affected by spatter and slag on the surface. But when running a bead zinc can cause porosity that can weaken the weld.
Both Durafix and Muggy Weld rod. The zinc volatilizes and leaves the base metal adjacent to the weld. When you arc weld galvanized steel the heat produced by the welding arc is high enough to vaporize the zinc coating.
Zinc alloys are used the most because they are low temperatures with low melting points.
Most arc welding processes will evaporate the zinc on the plate leading to corrosion in the weld area and in the backside of the bead. This is also another reason why you shouldnt use galvanized steel utensils while cooking. Also zinc within a weld can cause some issues in your weld. I also have MAP gas and OA and I have silvered soldered silver brazed and brazed before and the first kind of welding I ever learned how to do was OA welding mild steel with a clothes hanger.
